CANINE UNEMPLOYMENT
Is there such a thing??? I mean really folks canine unemployment??????? Yes, Yes, yes! Our shelters are filled to the brim and dogs are being tossed aside like yesterday’s news. It’s because the unemployment rate for dogs is too high!
Dogs are faithful companions, but what are we really doing for them??? We feed them, water them, pat them on the head and if they are lucky they may get a walk for 15 min. Now I am not saying that every dog in America is treated this way but a high percentage are and then these unexercised un-stimulated dogs start exhibiting behaviors that are not house or people friendly and off to the shelter they go.
Your dog needs a job, it is only fair, after all you have one. Our pets are crying out for something to do so, lets give them a job.
Each breed of dog has a history, where they came from, what they were used for etc.. If you tap into your dog’s history and give him his old job back or one that maybe mimics his old job you will see the canine version of extreme bliss.
The husky for instance loves to run and pull so teach him to do that! Give him his old job back. Teaching a dog to pull a light weight sled is easier than you think and these sleds are available along with the proper pulling harnesses to the general public you just have to know where to look. Pulling is just not for the Iditarod dogs your yellow lab can do it too and he will have a blast and so will you and the kids. I know, I got strange looks when my yellow lab Beezer and I would zip around our subdivision on our small kick sled but what a wonderful way to share time with your best buddy. Beezer would see the racing harness come out and he would start to scream with excitement just as if he was at the starting line of the Iditarod. Think outside the box when it comes to exercise with your dog. There is a huge world out there for dogs and their owners to find new and exciting jobs they can do together. I challenge each and every one of you to get your dog’s old job back, experience the joy of something new and exciting you can do together. Let’s end CANINE UNEMPLOYMENT!
